To beat Star Wars™: KOTOR II using only bench-crafted gear, start character creation as a Jedi Sentinel with at least 14 to 16 Intelligence, unequip all default gear immediately upon waking on Peragus, and rely on unarmed attacks and Force powers until reaching your first workbench. Every equippable item—weapons, armor, underlays, implants, belts, and combat shields—must be built at an item workbench or chemical lab station rather than equipped from loot drops or quest rewards.

Surviving the Peragus Mining Facility

The opening hours on Peragus present the primary bottleneck of this challenge. Because you cannot equip looted mining blasters, vibrocutters, or miner uniforms, your character must fight without gear through the early droid encounters.

  1. Unequip everything immediately: Strip your character upon leaving the kolto tank. Place all starting clothing, weapons, and utility items into inventory storage.
  2. Rely on unarmed combat and Force powers: Defeat mining droids using basic unarmed strikes and early offensive Force powers.
  3. Hoard consumables for salvage: Do not use disposable energy shields or mines unless facing lethal damage. Keep them in your inventory to break down for raw components once you reach a crafting station.
  4. Reach the upper mining tunnels: The first accessible workbench is located in the upper mining facility. Avoid optional fights until you reach this station and manufacture your first legal weapon.

Character Creation and Skill Allocation

Skill points dictate what items you can manufacture and how efficiently you convert scrap into usable parts. The Jedi Sentinel is the most effective starting class for this challenge due to its wide class skill spread and high skill point gain per level.

SkillPriorityRole in Crafted-Only Run
RepairEssentialMaximizes component yields when dismantling items at workbenches
Computer UseHighUnlocks advanced weapon modifications and internal components
Treat InjuryHighUnlocks potent lab-station chemicals, stimulants, and medpacs
SecurityModerateUnlocks utility belts and secondary craftable gear

Set starting Intelligence to 14 or 16 during character creation. Allocate your points into Repair first, followed by Computer Use and Treat Injury.

Repair directly governs the component yield when dismantling surplus items. A low Repair score causes severe resource loss when breaking down rare equipment, delaying your access to top-tier weapon mods.

Managing Components and Chemical Conversion

In a standard playthrough, surplus gear is sold to merchants for credits. In a crafted-only run, credits are secondary to raw materials. Dismantle virtually every piece of dropped loot directly at crafting stations.

  • Boost Repair before dismantling: Equip skill-boosting gear or cast Force Valor before opening the workbench menu to maximize your component conversion ratio.
  • Break down heavy gear early: Dismantle looted heavy armors, blasters, and redundant melee weapons first. These provide the heavy component bulk required to build initial vibroblades and weapon upgrades.
  • Refine chemicals at lab stations: Turn excess medpacs, antidotes, and toxins into chemicals. Use these to produce energy shields and combat stimulants, which compensate for your low defensive stats before advanced armor upgrades become available.

Weapon Crafting and Component Upgrades

Base weapon frames provide minimal utility on their own. Your damage and survivability come primarily from modular upgrade components slotted into those weapons.

Once you reach a workbench, construct a basic vibroblade or heavy blaster, then immediately manufacture upgrade parts:

  • Edge and Blade Slots: Craft Vibration Cells to add flat damage and increase critical threat capabilities.
  • Grip and Chamber Slots: Build Pinpoint Scopes for ranged weapons or Contoured Grips for melee weapons to offset early attack penalties.
  • Lightsaber Assemblies: When you construct your lightsaber later in the campaign, manufacture Pontite Lens upgrades, Ultimate Diatium Energy Cells, and Expert Fencing Emitters to maximize critical hit damage.

Pair high-crit crafted upgrades with combat feats such as Flurry or Critical Strike to quickly defeat heavily armored Sith assassins and end-game bosses.
