Exploration is built into the running itself, since Secret Stars are placed in hard-to-reach locations that can require reaching unusual depths or heights. That makes each route more than a straight sprint; you are also looking for opportunities to leave the obvious path, take calculated risks, and uncover the hidden parts of Subway City while staying ahead of Guard and Dog.

Progression comes from building a stronger collection of Surfers and Boards. Each one has unique abilities, and the game encourages you to combine runners and boards according to the way you prefer to play. Surfer and Board tokens are used to upgrade them, with the broader goal of assembling the strongest Crew available to you. During runs, new power-ups add another layer of decision-making: Bubblegum provides protection, batteries superpower your hoverboard, and drones help carry you toward the highest points of Subway City. You also earn XP to unlock lively new Districts, while missions provide specific goals that turn individual runs into part of a longer checklist. Trials offer a more focused challenge through limited runs that demand your best performance for the best rewards. The current content also includes Zara’s Season, Empowered Daily Trials, and fresh Outfits in the shop, with discounts featured for the celebration of Disability Pride Month. On PC, the larger display is especially useful when you are scanning the upcoming route for hurdles, identifying a safer line through a busy section, or spotting a distant Secret Star before committing to a jump or stomp.
