To use gems and enchantments effectively in Total Battle: War Strategy, socket them into equipment sets dedicated to a single objective, such as player-versus-player combat, monster hunting, city defense, or resource gathering. Stacking matching bonuses onto specialized gear produces much stronger results than spreading mixed bonuses across general-purpose equipment.
Differences Between Gems and Enchantments
Both upgrades attach to gear crafted at the Workshop, but they provide different types of bonuses:
- Gems: Provide core military and logistical stats, including troop health, attack strength, defense, and march speed. Gems range in quality from common to legendary, with higher tiers offering substantially larger stat values.
- Enchantments: Provide percentage-based modifiers and specialized synergies. They enhance specific unit classes, combat behaviors, or logistical tasks like resource load capacity and gathering speed.
Combining an enchantment with a gem that targets the same attribute on a single equipment piece compounds that stat rather than scattering minimal bonuses across multiple areas.
Acquiring and Fusing Gems
Acquire uncut gems, fragments, and chests through standard map and kingdom activities:
- Monsters and Crypts: Attacking monsters and exploring high-level Crypts on the world map yields uncut stones and gem chests. Higher-level targets award better materials.
- Clan Chests and Gifts: Clan activities and purchases award shared gift chests that contain regular gem caches.
- Tournaments: Reaching milestone point thresholds in kingdom-wide events provides guaranteed high-tier gem rewards.
Because socket space on equipment is limited, fuse lower-tier duplicates in the fusion interface before socketing. Combining multiple identical gems produces a single gem of the next higher quality tier. Slotting fewer high-tier gems delivers significantly higher stat values than filling gear with low-grade common gems.
Dedicated Gem Configurations
Assign specific gem types to dedicated gear loadouts to maximize their effectiveness for each task.
| Gear Setup Focus | Recommended Gem Types | Primary Stat Objective |
|---|---|---|
| PvP Combat | Troop Health, Specific Class Attack (Melee, Ranged, or Mounted) | Maximizes strike power against enemy armies |
| Monster Hunting | March Speed, Monster Damage, Hero Strength | Lowers march travel time and energy usage |
| Resource Gathering | March Speed, Load Capacity, Gathering Yield | Increases gathering rate and haul capacity per march |
| City Defense | Fortification Defense, Wall Health, Troop Armor | Mitigates siege damage and protects stationed units |
When preparing combat gear for a Captain or Hero, align gems with the specific troop class leading that march. If an army relies on mounted units, socketing ranged defense or siege attack gems wastes socket capacity.
Applying and Managing Enchantments
Applying an enchantment binds consumable resources, and replacing or removing upgrades can require gold or extraction items. Follow these rules to avoid wasting materials:
- Enchant high-tier gear only: Reserve enchantments for purple-tier and gold-tier equipment that will remain in your active rotation for a long time. Applying enchantments to low-tier gear that will soon be replaced wastes scarce upgrade items.
- Match native equipment stats: If a helmet naturally boosts cavalry attributes, apply a cavalry enchantment. Mixing an infantry enchantment onto cavalry-focused gear dilutes the army's tactical cohesion.
- Plan equipment overhauls in advance: Check your available gold and extraction tools before removing gems or replacing enchantments. During major tournaments, move your best combat gems onto your primary march commander, then return utility gems to gathering gear after the event ends.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Total Battle: War Strategy articles next.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
