To beat Level 104 in CubeAway, dismantle the exposed outer steps of the plus-shaped structure before tapping blocks near the center. The puzzle uses tiered staircase blocks along each of the four arms to trap the core. Blocks cannot launch if any part of their escape trajectory is obstructed, meaning you must peel the structure from the outside in.
Removal Priority by Puzzle Section
Because every arrow requires a completely clear exit path off the board, attempting to clear the central cross early causes collisions against the elevated treads. Clear sections according to their flight availability:
| Section | Arrow Orientation | Clearing Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Outer Wing Tips | Pointing directly into open air | High: Clear first to open side angles |
| Staircase Tiers | Tangential and angled along arm edges | Medium: Remove top step down to base tier |
| Arm Connectors | Pointing outward along the beam axis | Medium-Low: Free once stair steps are gone |
| Central Junction | Pointing across arms and through the core | Low: Trapped until all four arms are stripped |
Step-by-Step Clearing Sequence
Follow this four-step sequence to clear the board without hitting blocked paths:
- Peel the Outer Extremities: Orbit the puzzle to find the tips of the four cross arms. Tap the outermost cubes whose arrows point directly outward into empty space.
- Shave the Staircase Steps: Inspect the stepped risers along the sides of each arm. Remove these blocks row by row, working from the highest step down toward the flat base of each arm.
- Clear the Arm Connectors: Once the stair ridges are removed, each arm becomes a flat beam. Verify that the flight line across the opposite side is clear, then tap the connector blocks moving toward the center.
- Dissolve the Central Core: With all four arms cleared down to the intersection, the remaining cluster has unobstructed flight lines in all primary directions. Tap the remaining core blocks to finish the stage.
Camera Angles and Troubleshooting Bottlenecks
A fixed camera angle makes obstructed arrows appear free because the 90-degree rotational symmetry of the plus shape hides asymmetrical arrow directions. Rotate your view along both the horizontal and vertical axes after clearing every few blocks. Tilting the camera downward directly along the staircase grooves will reveal whether an arrow is aiming into empty space or into the back face of an adjacent tier.
If no remaining blocks seem able to move, do not guess by tapping random cubes. Use a reverse-path inspection:
- Select a blocked arrow near the center and follow its trajectory forward to the cube blocking it.
- Check the blocking cube's arrow to see what obstructs its path.
- Trace backward through the chain until you reach the final block pointing into open air.
- Clear that terminal block to trigger the release sequence for the rest of the arm.

This saved me time in the early game.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Good guide for CubeAway players. The strategy part was useful.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
