Keep the Teleporter gadget in its default one-way setup rather than purchasing bidirectional travel. In Dome Keeper, upward transit is the primary logistical bottleneck: flying up a vertical shaft against gravity while carrying mined resources drastically slows your movement speed and risks late arrivals to defensive waves. Downward movement has no encumbrance penalties, so falling down a clear vertical shaft takes only seconds. Skipping the bidirectional upgrade saves valuable iron and water for dome defenses and excavation tech.
Why Two-Way Teleportation Wastes Resources
Transit time in Dome Keeper is physically asymmetrical. Fighting gravity to carry iron, water, or cobalt upward takes significant time, especially as you dig deeper into late-game biomes. Arriving late to the dome forces your structure to absorb unmitigated combat damage.
Descending into the mine, however, costs nothing. Gravity rapidly accelerates your Keeper downward, allowing you to reach deep mining pockets through an open shaft in seconds. Purchasing bidirectional travel spends scarce mid-game resources to automate a trip that physics already handles quickly and for free.
How to Set Up a Freefall Transit Shaft
To make a single-direction teleporter loop efficient, build your mine around an unobstructed central drop corridor:
- Excavate a strictly vertical main spine: Clear out residual blocks and avoid jagged corners so the Keeper falls unimpeded at maximum speed.
- Keep side tunnels horizontal: Branch outward horizontally into resource seams, leaving the primary vertical shaft open from the dome floor to your lowest active level.
- Carry the Teleporter Pad to the active seam: Place the portable pad directly at the threshold of the vein you are currently mining instead of leaving it at the main shaft base.
- Warp immediately on combat alerts: When the battle siren starts and the timer shifts from yellow to red, step onto the pad to instantly teleport into the dome's weapon seat.
This cycle establishes a reliable loop: drop down the vertical chute via gravity, clear horizontal branches while keeping the pad close, and warp home instantly when an attack approaches.
What to Upgrade Instead of Two-Way Teleportation
The iron and water saved by skipping bidirectional teleportation are better allocated to base survivability, weapon throughput, and mining speed.
| Upgrade | Primary Cost | Practical Benefit Over Two-Way Teleport |
|---|---|---|
| Drill Strength | Iron | Cuts through harder rock layers faster to uncover deposits. |
| Primary Weapon Damage | Iron and Water | Clears waves quickly to prevent dome damage and save cobalt. |
| Jetpack Speed | Iron | Accelerates horizontal vein clearing while preserving instant warps. |
| Pad Activation Delay | Water | Reduces the channel time required to warp back during emergencies. |
Improving drill tiers prevents stalls against dense rock, while faster weapon kill times prevent elite monster waves from damaging your hull. Water invested into pad activation speed directly increases your safety margin when warping out at the last second.
Pad Relocation and Extraction Timing
Because the portable pad remains where you drop it, move it manually whenever you open a new mining layer. Carrying the pad downward incurs no significant penalty because gravity pulls you down at full speed. When a mineral vein is depleted, pick up the pad, drop into the central shaft, fall to your next target depth, and place the pad at the entrance of the new horizontal branch.
With the pad positioned at your active mining site, you do not need to calculate flight time back to the dome. Keep mining until the combat timer signals incoming enemies, then step onto the pad to immediately assume control of your offensive systems before the first flying or burrowing alien strikes.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Dome Keeper articles next.
Good guide for Dome Keeper players. The strategy part was useful.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
