Eternium is a hybrid offline and online action RPG. You can play through the single-player campaign, battle monsters, and craft gear completely offline without Wi-Fi or cellular data. However, the game requires an initial online connection to set up your profile and stream level data, as well as an active connection whenever you want to access the premium store, compete in events, or sync your save data to the cloud.

How to Prepare Eternium for Offline Play

Eternium uses progressive data streaming rather than bundling the entire game into your initial app store download. If you attempt to enter a new stage while disconnected, the game will stop you with an asset download error.

To ensure uninterrupted offline sessions, complete these setup steps while connected to the internet:

  1. Finish the Tutorial Online: Complete the opening tutorial sequence while connected so your profile registers and establishes local storage data on your device.
  2. Pre-Download Act Maps: Open the Act selection screen and enter the starting area of each campaign Act you intend to play. Keep the game open so it can stream the required map textures, enemy models, and audio files.
  3. Cache Background Resources: Stay in the main camp for a few minutes on a stable connection to finish downloading companion audio and spell visual effects.
  4. Verify in Airplane Mode: Turn on airplane mode on your device while in camp, then load into a zone to confirm the level opens without requesting network data.

Offline Features vs. Online Requirements

Once environmental assets are cached on your device, combat calculations, movement, and drops are handled entirely by local hardware. Some features, however, rely strictly on remote server validation.

Feature or ModeOffline AccessRequirement or Limitation
Story Campaign ActsYesRequires pre-downloading map assets in advance
Standard Gear LootingYesLoot tables and equipment drops run locally
Ability UpgradingYesTimers track progress using the device clock
Blacksmith CraftingYesRecipes, material consumption, and fusions run locally
Trials ProgressionPartiallySolo runs are playable, but times will not post to leaderboards
In-Game ShopNoRequires active server communication and billing verification
Event Modes (such as ANB)NoRequires live server authentication and event timer validation

How to Prevent Progress Loss After Playing Offline

When you play offline, your experience, item drops, and quest completions are stored strictly in local device memory. If you switch devices or uninstall the application before uploading this data, you will lose your offline progress.

To protect your account, reconnect your device to Wi-Fi or cellular data after every offline play session. Return to the main camp screen while connected to trigger the automatic cloud save. Once the game completes this server handshake, your offline earnings are safely synchronized across your profile.
