To level a fresh Mage to level 70 in Eternium in roughly 30 to 35 minutes without Champion Points or level-reduced gear, clear only enough campaign story to unlock the Trial portal, activate a 200% Experience Booster, and grind Trials continuously while equipping gear that has the Extra Experience attribute.

Step 1: Unlock the Trial Portal

Do not play through the full campaign. Campaign maps feature long walkways, unskippable dialogue, and low enemy density that slow down experience rates.

  1. Start Act I and play only the mandatory opening story stages.
  2. Run past lore objects and scattered non-essential monsters, fighting only the enemies blocking objectives or exit gates.
  3. Stop campaign progression as soon as the portal to Trials unlocks in the home hub.

Step 2: Establish the Trial Grinding Loop

Trials provide compact layouts with dense monster packs and an immediate boss spawn once the progress bar fills to 100%.

  • Choose the right tier: Select a Trial tier you can finish in 90 to 120 seconds.
  • Prioritize speed over difficulty: If a boss fight takes longer than 30 seconds or causes deaths, immediately lower the Trial tier by one or two levels. Raw clear speed yields far more experience per minute than struggling in higher tiers.
  • Scale up regularly: Because your character gains multiple levels every few runs, step up to higher Trial tiers every two to three clears to keep enemy levels in line with your damage output.
  • Minimize town downtime: Active booster timers tick down during combat runs. Grab loot from the boss chest, return to town, mass-salvage or sell unwanted gear, and queue the next Trial within seconds.

Step 3: Mage Skill Rotation and Mob Pulling

Mages level faster than other classes when pulling wide areas into clustered area-of-effect (AoE) kill zones.

  1. Pulling Phase: Sprint through rooms and corridors without stopping to fight small groups. Group 20 to 30 trailing monsters together.
  2. Control Phase: Cast Frost Nova to freeze the entire pack in place, or use Singularity to drag dispersed ranged units into the center.
  3. Burst Phase: Cast Blizzard directly over the frozen group. Finish remaining elites or single stragglers with Arcane Bolts or Frostbolt.
Ability TypeAbilityTactical Role
Primary AttackArcane Bolts / FrostboltSingle-target boss execution and picking off surviving elite mobs.
Crowd ControlFrost NovaFreezes surrounding packs, preventing incoming melee damage.
Area DamageBlizzardHigh-radius sustained damage that clears dense, frozen clusters.
Pull / GroupingSingularityPulls distant ranged and melee enemies into a tight point for AoE.

Step 4: Gearing and Stat Priorities

Inventory management is the most common bottleneck during a speed run. Treat gear rarity as secondary and prioritize stats strictly in this order:

  1. Extra Experience: Look for this on every armor slot, ring, necklace, and weapon. An uncommon (green) or rare (blue) item with high Extra Experience is more valuable during leveling than an epic or legendary item without it.
  2. Power: Increases base spell damage to ensure Blizzard eliminates clustered packs in a single cast.
  3. Haste: Accelerates spellcasting animations and basic attack speed.

Do not craft complete gear sets or re-roll attributes at the mystic while leveling. Rely on direct drops from Trial boss chests, lock items with high Extra Experience, mass-salvage everything else, and return directly to the portal.
