To survive squad encounters in Last Beacon: Survival, keep your units constantly moving, break enemy line-of-sight with environmental cover, and prioritize high-threat ranged targets. Because enemy ranged attacks rely on travel time rather than immediate hitscan registration, static defenses leave your team vulnerable to telegraphed incoming fire.

Dodging Projectiles with Dynamic Movement

Continuous squad movement is your primary defense against enemy ranged fire. Enemies signal their attacks with visual wind-up animations or brief pauses before firing.

  • Anticipate attack wind-ups: Watch for enemy attack pauses and shift your squad horizontally relative to the attacker to dodge incoming shots.
  • Maintain unit spacing: Keep squad members spread apart. Tight clustering allows a single projectile or area-of-effect attack to damage multiple heroes at once.
  • Circle-strafe single targets: Move your team in a circular path around isolated enemies to disrupt their tracking and force misses.

Using Environmental Cover

Positioning squad members behind physical obstacles like crates, debris, or terrain features blocks incoming fire without spending character health.

When facing an established enemy firing line, move your units behind nearby cover to break their line-of-sight. Breaking sight forces hostiles to stop firing or change position, resetting their attack cycles and opening a safe window for a counter-attack.

Threat Prioritization and Formation Rotation

Directing damage effectively reduces the volume of incoming fire faster than purely defensive movement.

  • Focus fire: Concentrate all unit attacks on a single hostile at a time. Target high-rate-of-fire or high-damage ranged enemies first to lower overall incoming pressure.
  • Rotate formation positions: Move damaged heroes toward the rear of your formation to protect their health while shifting healthy units forward to manage aggro.
  • Kite melee attackers: Pull incoming melee threats into open terrain to eliminate them from distance before they close in.
  • Execute back-pedal retreats: If your squad is overwhelmed, move backward toward cleared zones while maintaining fire. This creates safe distance and resets the battle on your terms.
