To reach the Galactic Center in No Man's Sky, travel roughly 700,000 light-years inward from the outer rim of the Euclid galaxy, reach a gateway system adjacent to the core, fill your hyperdrive to 100% fuel capacity, and warp across the boundary. Because jumping to the next galaxy breaks all installed technology in your active ship, Multi-Tool, and Exosuit general inventory, equip sacrificial secondary items before making the final jump.

Choosing a Travel Method

You can travel inward toward the core using three primary approaches: planetary portals, black holes, or direct hyperdrive warping.

Method 1: Planetary Portal Shortcut (Fastest)

Using an Ancient Portal bypasses hundreds of manual jumps and takes you directly to the inner edge of the galaxy:

  1. Locate an Alien Monolith: Purchase Alien Cartographic Data charts from a Space Station cartographer. Use them until a Monolith is marked on your HUD.
  2. Obtain Portal Coordinates: Visit the Monolith, solve its initial riddle, and interact with it a second time. Present the cultural artifact required by the dominant local species (a Gek Relic, Vy'keen Dagger, or Korvax Casing) to reveal the planet's Ancient Portal.
  3. Charge and Dial the Portal: Charge each of the sixteen glyph pedestals using common biological and mineral elements (Oxygen, Sodium, Carbon, Cobalt).
  4. Input the Sequence: Enter the first glyph (the "Sunset" or jellyfish symbol) into all twelve slots.

This sequence teleports you to a system roughly 5,000 light-years from the center, placing you only three to four standard jumps away from a gateway system.

Method 2: Black Hole Navigation (Moderate Speed)

Black holes propel your ship through space and deposit you approximately 5,000 to 7,000 light-years closer to the center per jump:

  • Finding Black Holes: Ask Specialist Polo on the Space Anomaly to mark black hole coordinates on your Galactic Map, or locate them randomly while exploring.
  • Managing Damage: Every passage through a black hole damages one random technology module installed in your starship's general technology inventory. Keep repair resources—such as Wiring Looms and Repair Kits—in your cargo hold, or pilot a spare ship with minimal technology installed.

Method 3: Direct Hyperdrive Warping (Standard Route)

Manual warping requires dedicated ship upgrades to cover the distance efficiently. Unupgraded starter ships jump only 100 to 150 light-years per tank.

  • Install Upgrade Modules: Purchase S-class Hyperdrive modules with Nanites from Space Station vendors. Group up to three modules adjacent to each other and your main engine to gain adjacency stat bonuses, extending explorer ships or freighters past 1,500 to 2,500 light-years per jump.
  • Craft Efficient Fuel: Standard Warp Cells provide only 20% fuel per charge. Unlock the Warp Hypercore blueprint to restore 100% fuel using one Antimatter and one Storm Crystal.

Preparing for the Final Core Jump

Once you arrive at a gateway system bordering the center, the Galactic Map allows you to select the Galactic Core as your warp target. You cannot make the leap without meeting specific requirements and mitigating equipment loss.

Essential Pre-Jump Checklist

  • Charge Hyperdrive to 100%: The final leap requires a completely full hyperdrive fuel tank, regardless of your standard fuel consumption per jump.
  • Switch to a Sacrificial Multi-Tool: Crossing the core breaks all installed technology on your equipped Multi-Tool. Open your Quick Menu, swap to a secondary or low-grade tool with no valuable upgrades, and leave your primary weapon safe in inventory.
  • Switch to a Sacrificial Starship: Every technology module in your active ship's tech inventory will break. Summon a cheap secondary ship that has just enough hyperdrive fuel and basic drive technology to reach the core.
  • Stock Repair Supplies: Carry 20 to 30 Repair Kits, purchased in advance from Outlaw Stations. Repair Kits bypass exotic ingredient costs when fixing damaged technology modules.

Surviving Arrival in the Next Galaxy

After the transition sequence completes, you will awaken on a hazard planet on the outer edge of the next dimension (such as the Hilbert Dimension), approximately 700,000 light-years from its respective center.

  1. Protect Your Character: Your Life Support and Hazard Protection modules will break upon entry. Immediately open your Quick Menu, switch back to your undamaged primary Multi-Tool, and use Repair Kits, Ferrite, or Sodium to restore basic life support functions.
  2. Summon Your Primary Ship: Do not spend time gathering resources to fix the broken sacrificial ship you used for the jump. Move a short distance away and use your Quick Menu to summon your undamaged main starship directly to your position.
  3. Establish a Return Anchor: Build a base computer or visit the nearest Space Station teleporter. Activating a teleporter registers the new galaxy to your terminus network, allowing you to freely travel back and forth between galaxies.
