To decorate your train in Resonance Solstice, step inside an eligible carriage, open the layout editor, and arrange furniture or companion pets on the interior grid. You cannot customize carriages from the world map or navigation console; decoration mode requires entering the car directly.
Entering Decoration Mode
- Walk into the passenger or crew carriage you want to customize.
- Select the layout UI icon on your screen to open builder mode.
- Use the shifted isometric perspective to view your car's floor tiles and wall mounting slots.
Entering decoration mode locks external train navigation prompts, preventing accidental car transitions while you work.
Placing, Rotating, and Storing Furniture
Furnishing uses a grid system with collision boundaries to keep paths accessible for your crew. The inventory tray at the bottom of the editor organizes items into categories, including seating, tables, floor mats, partitions, wall decor, and props.
To place or adjust an item:
- Place: Select an item from your storage tray and drag it onto the carriage floor.
- Rotate: Use the rotation tool to turn the piece in 90-degree increments so counters and chairs face into the room.
- Check boundaries: A green footprint indicates valid placement. A red footprint signals that the item overlaps an obstacle, wall, or doorway.
- Confirm: Tap the checkmark icon to lock the furniture onto the floor grid.
- Move or store: Tap any placed furniture piece to reposition it or tap the store button to return it to your stash.
Always keep a direct, unobstructed walking route between the carriage entrance and exit doors. Blocking door transitions causes visual pathfinding issues when walking through cars outside of the editor.
Managing Pets in Living Quarters
Companion pets wander freely within the carriage where you assign them. Access your unlocked animals through the pet tab in the decoration interface to deploy them.
| Feature | Mechanic Detail | Practical Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Pet Roster | Companion animals unlocked through progression | Select pets directly from the editor's dedicated pet tab. |
| Carriage Roam | Animals wander exclusively within their assigned car | Place pet beds, bowls, or scratching mats to anchor idling spots. |
| Capacity Limit | Each carriage has a fixed limit on active pets | Spread companion animals across multiple cars to avoid crowding. |
| Interactions | Conductors can approach pets during regular walking | Keep open space around pet mats so interaction prompts trigger cleanly. |
Where to Get Furniture and Decoration Sets
New furnishings come primarily from city commerce and game milestones:
- Regional merchants: Major city hubs feature home furnishing and lifestyle stalls in their commercial districts. These vendors accept local regional currencies earned from cargo trade routes and faction reputation.
- Blueprints and regional decor: Different settlements sell distinct regional aesthetics, ranging from rustic parlors to industrial fixtures. Check vendor inventories whenever you finish a profitable trade delivery at a major station.
- Events and achievements: Limited-edition posters, exclusive themed furniture sets, and rare pet variants come from milestone achievements and seasonal events rather than standard city shops.
Carriage Layout Tips
Train cars are long and narrow, which can make row-based wall placement look like a bare hallway.
- Divide the car into functional zones: Use low bookshelves, screens, or floor rugs to partition a single carriage into separate dining, office, or lounge spaces.
- Vary piece heights: Combine tall cabinets and wall-mounted art with low tables and cushions to create visual depth along narrow walls.
- Anchor focal points: Place prominent statement pieces, such as a piano or bar counter, along central wall sections to define the carriage's theme.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Resonance Solstice articles next.
This saved me time in the early game.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
